Crafty Mermaid

This should be the last of my quilts for a while.  I have a few more squares cut and fleece for backing but I seem to be missing in the inclination (or potential recipients!). I hand tied the backing (fleece blankets from our wedding) topped with Dr Suess quilting fabric.  The hand ties are made with white yarn. I pieced together the binding from leftover fabric from the top and from my stash.

Three hip hop harem pants - one for LP and two for her friends on their first birthdays. Pattern: Hip Hop Harem Pants by Little Kiwi Closet Fabric: Spotlight (using my Christmas present gift voucher) I added in a encased elastic waistband as the blue fabric didn't quite have the recovery needed.

I couldn't help leading with this photograph.  Its one of my favourite from last year.  LP wrapped in a homemade crochet blanket (currently keeping her company in creche during the week) and one of my favourite tops also me made. The purple and green blanket is LP's buggy and car blanket.  Finished while I was in labour (I'm hard core, me! - a bit of a long winded affair so rather pleased I had time to finish this up before LP turned up.  I was absolutely convinced she would be late so was rather slow on progress for a bit).   Two more quilts.  These are made from BM and my old shirts.  A nice bit of recycling if I do say so myself.  There's a lot of memories in the quilts - the blue floral pinstripe is one of my first business shirts from Marks and Spencers.  There's a shirts BM bought in Hong Kong (and custom tailored for him), one of our first overseas trips together. You'll have to forgive the picture heavy post of the two quilts. I'm really rather pleased with them.   There's a few hidden treasures too as I saved the pockets where I could. Excuse the wrinkles in the fabric - I basted the quilt top to the backing (fleece from Spotlight in this case) using spray adhesive so it looks more wrinkled than it is. I quilted the front to the backing using simple straight lines.  And bound in navy from stash.  I really loved how effective the cross pattern was and the mix of colours worked surprizingly well - just goes to show that...

Since LP's arrival my wardrobe has been quite constrained.  I'm not quite sure what shape my body is  - its definitely changed and access to my boobs is an immediate issue on occassion! I've hacked the Papercut Ensis tee into a breastfeeding top and am really rather pleased with the outcome.  Especially as my hacking started in the early sleep deprived stages. I amended the lower front into three panels.  One in the front which curves from the centre to the sides and two underlying sides which are joined underneath the front panel. Fabric - I think the grey circles was Mood in the US and the lace was from fabric a brac . Pattern: Papercut Ensis Tee Easy access... sorted.  However its not quite as work appropriate as I'd hoped as the lace is a little too see through and with my larger 'assets' I'm not comfortable wearing it to work. I made a second tee for warmer weather and it worked out great - but we've had a crazy ...

Pattern: Sewnz Pinafore dress Fabric: Caroline of  Teal and Wolf and now Vinnes ReSew bought the demin at the Tip Shop in Wellington and gifted it to me.  The dresses are lined in aerial photography quilting fabric which I think Lemomi strongly encouraged me to purchase.  The applique is quilting cotton from stash. I ended up making up four of these.  One for my LP, one for my niece and a matching set for a friend's new baby daughter and her older sister. I definitely got better at the applique by the time I was finished.  The first version for LP didn't really stand up to washing without the applique fraying.  Fun technique though. I finished up most of them with kam snaps.  I love how professional these look.
