A mystery plant

Any guesses? Yup, Strawberry

More colours

I've started on the last ball of the September Spotlight yarn so went to get a refuel on the weekend.  Lovely, lovely colours, my precious... While I was in Spotlight laying out my blanket on a handy waist height display to help pick out the colours, an older Asian woman started opening it up and talking to her friend about it (hopefully in complimentary terms as I didn't understand a word).  It was a time to explain it was mine before she made off with it either to buy or to complain about :)  Her friend seemed to understand what I was saying so I was able to keep it! :) Lots of lovely edible colours for the next few months (well if I average a ball a week...).  Reds and browns through to blues again and some aquas too.

Veggie Garden Part 2

Tomatoes and Marigolds.  Marigolds, it seems, keep pesky critters from my lovely tomato plants (and provide colour!).  I still have a lettuce patch to show (and three other tomatoes) but I'm really proud of my two days of planting.  Baring the lettuce patch which I'll tell you all about when I have it properly photographed and the potted herb garden, I've planted in amongst BM's shrub garden so had to chop through the weed matting.  The soil isn't the hottest (very very dense clay) but I'm hoping the compost I put in will be like fine wine for these lovelies.

The Hong Kong suit

I got BM to pose for me in the suit he had made for him in Hong Kong .  It fits really well and looks great.  All the shirts came out great too.  We went to the World of Wearable Arts today and he wore this so I nabbed a photo before we went out the door.  The weather looks much better than it actually was!

Crocheting with cats

One of my two cat housemates is really enjoying the creation of my blanket. It seems it is a thing to be played with, attacked and slept upon.  Thank God for acrylic yarn. :)

Food Gardening Part 1

I behaved like a very responsible vegetable gardener today.  I went out and purchased a new pot to repot some root bound mint (and let it roam a bit freer), I also potted an aloe vera plant that was languishing on my window sill for a few weeks and planted some basil and parsley from the supermarket.  Fingers crossed it all goes according to plan and I have access to a vibrant and healthy herb garden for the summer.  I have a mental block usually when it comes to gardening but for some reason, growing and eating something makes it a hell of a lot more interesting.  I planted seven tomato plants last weekend and they seem to have taken to their new home and once I get a bit of light tomorrow, I'll photograph and share them in all their healthy glory. I'm hoping the move outdoors will do wonders for my poor deprived and ignored aloe vera plant. I love that New Zealand is suitable for the outdoor planting of this little mite and hopefully it w...

I wonder how much longer it will be before I get to eat our lemons??
