Crafty mermaid just doesn't feel 'me' any more. I've set up a new blog and look forward to seeing you there!<br />

A few quick card makes. I haven't been as prolific as usual in my card making this year and these were for a house warming, to say hi to a friend who was soldering on, two new baby cards, and one for a relation on BMs who is ill and recovering. I made the 3 for BM to give him a choice. Not a lot of cards stockpiled at the moment. I just haven’t been making them over the last year or so. Possibly because my craft stuff is unevenly distributed throughout the house and not so easy to access. <br>

A few quick and oh so satisfying makes with cotton yarn. I followed the <a href="http://greedyforcolour.blogspot.com/2011/12/christmas-bauble-tutorial.html">Greedy for Colour Christmas Bauble</a> tutorial at the start and then kind of winged it at the end. I also added a few beads for an extra dimension.<br />

<b>Deets:</b> Self styled pattern using Peter Pan merino baby in 3037 (darker purple) and ? (lighter purple) and I presume size 6mm crochet hook.<br />
<br />
In the pursuit of using up my existing yarn (these skeins were left over from <a href="http://crafty-mermaid.blogspot.com/2018/02/blankets.html">LP's blanket</a>), I got out my hook and tried to make up a new crochet hat but its massive so it won't be fitting LP for quite some time. In the meantime, its gone into the present box for an older child to be gifted with it at some point!<br />

<img alt="" id="id_1599_a8a8_4dd2_d31e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MDdFDXEsa_Q/Wx1ivSnFg5I/AAAAAAAAMIs/TLozasi-U-EkBNoHt2JyaM1xWaX6XkVHwCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
<br />
<b>The Deets:</b> <a href="https://itch-to-stitch.com/product/tierras-woven-joggers-digital-sewing-pattern-pdf/">Itch to Stitch Tierras Woven Joggers</a> in size 12. Black fabric from stash (one of my first purchases and completely unsuited to the dress I thought I would make with it!) and black lining from stash from the Star Fish liquidation sale (I have quite a bit of this left over, so glad I bought a <i>lot). </i>I don't think this make is going to last that long as the fabric is likely to fray quite quickly.<br />
<br />
<b>The Good:</b> A classy looking pair of trousers to add to my work wardrobe. Length and size works. This isn't the size recommended based on my measurements but is consistent with my <a href="http://crafty-mermaid.blogspot.com/2018/02/belize-skort.html">Itch to Stitch Belize Skort pattern</a>. I didn't make any alternations to the rear and just sewed up the standard size 12.<br />
<br />
<b>The Bad:</b> They don't really stay up if there's anything in the pockets and the back is a little low despite my significantly lacking behind.<br />
<i><br /></i>
<b>The Changes: </b>I made a straight size 12 but didn't include the cord. I really should have done as my lack of a rear means if I put *anything* in the pockets the joggers start descending my legs. Self drafted lining from the main pattern pieces and attached to the waistband. I lined to the knee because the fabric was a little more see through than expected.<br />
<br />
<b>The Verdict: </b>Will make again but I don't think this pair will be a long running addition to my wardrobe due to fabric choice. I can put up with the falling off bit by not using the pockets (such a waste!!!). <br />
<br />
<img alt="" id="id_fb56_b060_ca45_17cb" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PeYC8suv3GE/Wx1ivn7aWPI/AAAAAAAAMI4/gNnXosSuwGETKtLH7nDS9M8m2NcY56K0ACHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
<br />
Ooooh! Pocketses!<br />
<br />

Side shot. Baggy around the bum area but better than many other trousers I've tried.<br />

<br />
Slightly more to the back<br />

For some reason, I've been collecting photos of cakes past consumed. These were somewhat worthy of a post. I just can't seem to shake the idea that they need to be noted in some way.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think it all started with my fixation on getting a 'real' birthday cake as my birthday present from BM last year.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_3e50_9651_cec3_69b0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-M8wGGfeRx3w/Wx1kLkxLV2I/AAAAAAAAMJY/L4AQJ5GInzAFiXxRCA7EFB8mZrBwE4tjACHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Forgive the added flower effects - but I was rather excited on cake collection. This beast was from <a href="http://www.sweetbakery.co.nz/">Sweet Bakery in Marsden village</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_e16a_802a_d3f0_1608" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yooFz94wMV4/Wx1kMK3wHfI/AAAAAAAAMJc/lVoRzP_4IsIZa8v-_CsXS-9M7NNAE56HgCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And was actually as tasty as it should have been. Also rather larger than expected. We had a dinner party for a few friends and despite our and their best efforts only got through half!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_22fb_93ac_20b1_6e0c" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-b9msOPePnpU/Wx1kMD0LxiI/AAAAAAAAMJg/WHqpeZr6N7MdHIUkAyC1slxrLViouxeWgCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm definitely going to have to up my cake baking game! Many of the confections you can buy easily outstrip my best efforts.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_3892_bac9_e299_1df8" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VnndoLphpIo/Wx1c5KQFhcI/AAAAAAAAMFk/tTsL08caDy4e0nbD94I6yhxn4Vraz-H3QCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
How can you remotely compare to decadent creations ala <a href="https://www.louissergeant.co.nz/">Louis Sargeant</a> - at least they're manageable size wise!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_eec5_d44f_35f_84e4" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Xtxmj7RtAXA/Wx1c5c78gHI/AAAAAAAAMFo/wMBJEa5VGcsKxZDLCcl1e2JGUb6dpJiWACHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Although some cakes aren't really anywhere near as edible in comparison to how they present. The cake above was bought to commemorate the passing of one of BM's cats while we were overseas. So sad we couldn't be there and still missing his presence around the house. Such a lovely tempered and friendly cat. For some reason, I equate cake with life events so asked BM to buy something fancy and he delivered. Unfortunately, New World doesn't quite have the taste at the level to match. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_2547_495d_fd39_5bec" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_Ccjcg61ESk/Wx1c58lnh7I/AAAAAAAAMFs/FnmwvqFeTPEMSl2rmjAd5tFzH3WpNDGXgCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And finally in this culinary tour of excess calories for the last 6-8 months, I bought these cute biscuits at the recent Fabric a Brac in Wellington. (Luckily for my stash busting push this was my only take home purchase - ok, as well as a bag of cheese rolls!) The biscuits are the brainchild of <a href="https://www.sidonieskitchen.co.nz/">Sidonie's Kitchen</a> and can be make up to order with your choice of text.</div>

<img alt="" id="id_6566_e7a0_4279_53b3" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_61LiJ2rr90/WvEyJz2radI/AAAAAAAAMEk/S1YHc-3m-B82r6lzdPugN9bzqWZ391A0wCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our recent family trip to Ireland, the UK, and the States didn't result in quite as much fabric as it normally does! Three main reasons...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. LP is great at fabric shopping for a bit but gets bored and I had to drag BM around with us too!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. It was mainly a work trip for me (BM and LP hung out while I conferenced, meeted and seminared)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. I've discovered a wonderful online tool called the <a href="https://sewjourners.net/2018/01/02/stash-shrinker/">stash shrinker</a> created by <a href="https://sewjourners.net/">SewJourners</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Stash Shrinker is a pre-programmed excel spreadsheet to help you keep track of your fabric purchases against your fabric use. By recording each sewn item and the amount of fabric used as well as the fabric purchases you can track how much your stash is increasing or decreasing. I quite like it because I don't have to inventory my current stash and just mark in new purchases as well as record what I've made. I originally started with a 3m out for every 1m in guideline but realised I just couldn't keep to it! (Dammit!) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm really keen to get my fabric stash (and buying behaviour) under control as my sewing room will soon be given over to LP (cots last for ages, right?). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been recording my makes and purchases since Jan and I'm currently behind the sewing up my stash ball. Current totals are 26.75m out and 15.5m in (oophs!). I've a few projects in the pipeline so should hit the magic 31m sewn soon!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So what made it into the stash?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Above: woollen remnant from Ardfinnan Woollen mills from my Grandmother's stash - which closed in 1975 a few years before I was born! I've already cut into it and made it up - luckily before I knew its history or I would have spent too long dithering.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_762e_519b_e78d_b997" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yZHY2IB37kw/WvEyKZQfaMI/AAAAAAAAMEs/WTx4CoWS8VMSxiJioTnzeTopYrT5UZrdQCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Embroidered linen also from my grandmother's stash. Not sure what this will be.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Viscose from <a href="http://www.internationalsilks.com/International_Silks_and_Woolens/Home.html">International Silks and Woollens</a> in LA. This was a fun shop - first time despite having been the area a few times on previous trips. I think I defaulted to Mood before but they've moved so I went on the hunt for other fabric stores. I wasn't keen on bringing LP and BM in to the garment district in downtown LA so wanted to hunt out more local options to where we were staying.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm planning on a woven top for me with this one. Possibly the <a href="https://www.cashmerette.com/products/montrose-top-pdf-pattern">Cashmerette Montrose</a>. But I'm keen on a pattern with waist darts as my chest is quite large so a top without can turn very tent like very quickly. I may alter an already adapted top instead (I'm holidaying in Whanganui at the moment so can't look it up) but it will require more edits as I'll have to adapt for my breastfeeding and post LP body.</div>

And some trim for a future LP project again from <a href="http://www.internationalsilks.com/International_Silks_and_Woolens/Home.html">International Silks and Woollens</a>. I was quite reserved but there was lots to tempt - I think the spreadsheet really helped keep my spending habits in check. Its been useful to see how slowly I can actually add to my stash to keep up with my </div>

sewing, even when I seem to be quite productive.</div>

<img alt="" id="id_80f5_e94c_5882_3931" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MJ_AFpQrv_E/Wx1khH48jXI/AAAAAAAAMJ0/epofIFSl6bw9tP2Xy--8U4-PB1q-CToBgCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I bought fabric. I bought star wars fabric. Randomly. Online. Via Facebook. I don't know me any more. Its pretty amazing though, eh? I started going through my phone photos and realised there was a whole world of sewing related purchases I haven't blogged. I think I had a bit of a stash realisation just before the end of last year. I just wasn't sewing enough to reduce my stash and I was adding to it at a rate that while so satisfying also meant I would have to rehouse my LP altogether if I didn't do something. LP is due to move into my former sewing room when she graduates from her cot.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The fabric is cotton lycra and a really good weight. My plan is to make matching tees for my brother and his daughter (please don't tell him!) and BM and our LP too. I've gotten as far as cutting out and then losing hope (see below for the black cotton lycra deets).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_cbe2_db_1ef6_53fe" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1Jp-nniivcE/Wx1nOnl78tI/AAAAAAAAMMA/6E4TBr77y1sfHmRJdsUxjdVb8gg_q-UrACHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I shuffled off to Spotlight to buy a man's T pattern and came home with two extra (oophs - there was a bulk special on and I got the two others for very cheap).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_8c66_c11c_b2b7_e099" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-APgFKcWCxrc/Wx1khHhOExI/AAAAAAAAMJ4/Vs0eGqW2pZYGgZcbyczduvhGmmJBwBmyQCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The parcel came with a few fabric samples and I fell in love with the star wars sweat shirting on the left (I *may* have purchased some later on!).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_da81_dae4_4a13_8fc7" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7-H6C_sncTM/Wx1kgvuXAFI/AAAAAAAAMJw/gB_We1Q8DLkdywa_davKcS6034KyBUWXgCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.levanafabrics.co.nz/">Levana </a>purchases from just before I went back to work after maternity leave. Anchors sweatshirting, black and teal nuyarn merino and two patterns. I've made up the hip hop harem pants quite a bit but haven't made the vest. I've bought another online pattern and made that up instead. Most of the nuyarn is gone but I haven't cut into the anchors yet.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_d62c_ce5_2f2c_2732" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-SWvxt5NQfrA/Wx1kxt4YWXI/AAAAAAAAMKM/mmeyd5Tgi_41ZN2CGKsrcSU5QqRgoTauACHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In my bid to make the matching tees, I figured I would buy black contrasting cotton lycra locally rather than shipping it from the states. Massive mistake. It took ages to find the right weight and when I did one lot just ran and ran and ran. Not the best when I want it to coordinate with expensive printed 'main' fabric. See the very dark colour catchers above. I washed and dried the fabric multiple times and then chucked it into the bathtub again and was still getting bleeding. Gah!!! Between that and my coverstitch issues, I've put the project to one side. I've a feeling the baby tees I've cut won't remotely fit when I work up the nerve to open that bag again.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
I spent a little too much time shopping online since the arrival of the LP into my life. On the plus side, I've discovered far flung corners of the internet. I bought two iron on patches online during one late night foraging session. I had a few plain white and cream tees for LP and wanted to jazz them up a bit. <br />
<br />
Rather pleased with how this tee and patch turned out. I can't seem to find the second patch (my sewing supplies are distributed between three rooms at the moment and its beyond this mere mortal to keep track despite my best efforts). <br />
<br />
I ordered them from Ali Express and they took the normal 5 weeks or so to arrive for stupidly cheap. I ironed on the patch and then sewed around the outside. The second patch was missing its iron on backing so I'm not chomping at the bit to find a means of sticking it on before I sew it. Haven't washed it yet so don't know the durability. The tee is 12-18 months so not sure if I should just add it to the present box or try it out on LP.<br />

<img alt="" id="id_6aa_b4b_cf83_3e1a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7jDQ5RjZWHY/Wq7P23lpSJI/AAAAAAAAMDg/qcnLw_qhjnsOcqGLhFXlyRyxnLST-RvRwCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pattern: <a href="https://itch-to-stitch.com/product/tierras-woven-joggers-digital-sewing-pattern-pdf/">Itch to Stitch Tierras Woven Joggers</a> in size 12 (I think - I really need to start taking electronic notes when I finish sewing the garment)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Fabric: Can't remember but stashed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_8917_9246_16a7_2334" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9QPIzsgtez8/Wq7P33Z4IPI/AAAAAAAAMDs/CzxE4AeKBlUt6KcyMsz1Strkknwcrc0pQCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(The black and white top was for the photos - I couldn't help it)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I quite like the fit and I didn't do any pattern adjustments. These were actually the second pair I cut out but the first finished - I ran into a snag based on the fabric for the first pair. These 'joggers' are elastic low waisted and are simply constructed but thankfully also include pockets. Boom! Love me some pockets!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_b451_fc49_40ca_62c8" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6CJfVoRXq6A/Wq7P2ajlV7I/AAAAAAAAMDY/qBakkbdM5VUPviBjWES-yvWJ6GJlBV-7wCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The major downside is that I haven't got the elastic length right at the waist and they have a tendency to migrate South on my body if I put anything into the pockets. The pattern suggests a draw string but I wasn't keen and now I'm regretting it. I reckon a hidden drawstring is the way to go in future and may even be what's needed to make me happier about wearing these. Its turned cold in Welly this last month so I haven't been that keen on breaking these out so I'll wait for warmer weather to decide.</div>

Yes, it was awesome.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A few months ago on the way back from swimming with the LP, I dropped into an open studio at the Neighbourhood Studio on Adelaide Road. I ended up buying three cones of oversized yarn from <a href="https://www.plumpandco.com/">Plump & Co</a>. It was a complete OTT impulse purchase and I loved the stuff!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_453d_857a_4f61_49a0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RB55p8oiUFc/WqRA4bTjxCI/AAAAAAAAMCo/Ski2wUaGwdMltaXOZSgvJV7alR76ReTDwCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I then hand crocheted (as in no crochet hook) myself a two coloured basket - for no particularly good reason at all.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" id="id_e69d_d0c5_56f0_a400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jIS3nfcSEHc/WqRA3GHLINI/AAAAAAAAMCc/3yLIk74AyqIXd1_TRz7A5YSNF9SVsfmhwCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
<br />
A rather quick but cramping process for my poor hands! I used single crochet and three spools of yarn. Two in purple and one in grey.</div>

Some quick sewing makes for new arrivals. My cousin had twins a little while ago and I couldn't pass by the opportunity for a few quick makes.<br />
<br />
Pattern: <a href="http://crafty-mermaid.blogspot.co.nz/2017/10/bandana-bibs.html">same as these</a> (and STILL can't find the free online pattern)<br />
Fabric: Gifted quilting cotton for the fronts and a newly purchased and then chopped up towel for the back.<br />
I also use my Kam Snaps press to attached some quick plastic snaps.<br />
I also did a little applique to jazz up the front. Rather pleased with how it turned out as it looks a little sheriff-y!<br />

<br />
<a href="https://fabricabrac.wordpress.com/">Fabric - a - brac</a> is a biennial sewing event I adore. I'm not really sure why I get quite as giddily excited every time. Its partly the insight into other people's sewing stash and excitement of not knowing what you'll find and then meeting up with other sewing enthusiasts! The photo above is my haul from the second to last event. And the photo below is from the last (I was quite constrained!). So how have I done in terms of sewing this up in the meantime?<br />
<br />
Top:<br />
Still to sew - the cotton deer, blue cotton terry.<br />
Sewn - B&W stripes and animals (top and pants for LP), red merino (used but didn't go well!), purple cotton ribbing (used for LP)<br />
<br />
Bottom:<br />
Sewn: Green cotton terry sewn as shorts for LP.<br />
Pattern: Not yet - but so need to!<br />
Yarn: Haven't crocheted this up yet :)<br />
<br />
About a 50% pass rate I think! I've been trying very hard to reduce my stash since the start of the year and have been using the <a href="https://sewjourners.net/2018/01/02/stash-shrinker/">Stash Shrinker spreadsheet by SewJourners</a>. I was doing well until my recent trip overseas and I haven't had a chance to sew since I got home (though I am halfway through another pair of trousers). Its definitely helpful to keep track of what's coming in and going out. I'm working on a 1 in 2 out ratio at the moment. I had hoped to do a 1 in 3 out ratio but I found it too difficult not to buy! The upcoming fabric a brac won't help either!<br />

<br />
Pattern: <a href="https://oliverands.com/free-patterns/reversible-bucket-hat/">Oliver and S free reversible sunhat</a><br />
Size: I made extra small and small<br />
Amendments: Added ties and used upholstery fabric for the outside (made it non - reversible though!)<br />
Fabric: Outside - a gift from the lovely Gillian (she's started a new blog but I can't find it - <a href="http://livinglifenz.blogspot.co.nz/">her old one is here</a>), the fabric on the inside is left over cotton from a disastrous version of the Muse Melissa (still a cool pattern but that fabric and my poor princess seam FBA didn't do me any favours), the ties were the leftovers from a shift dress I made early in my sewing career - again cotton and some homemade white bias binding.<br />
<br />
<img alt="" id="id_7ddf_267a_6181_8dc4" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-T3BdZItnaXU/WoXL4PzYarI/AAAAAAAAMAk/Cg2pqrIQicgqG3ynLA17eEcBUorxAHjpQCHMYCw/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
<br />
While these are lovely, and look great - they're too small for my LP due to the thickness of the fabric used and the sizes I choose to make. I'll be very happily gifting them to other little people in the future and will also need to make the next size up for my little person. <br />

<br />
A quick but satisfying make for my little person. I used the <a href="http://littlekiwis.co.nz/product/hip-hop-harems-0-6years">Hip Hop Harems by Little Kiwi Closet</a>. I used the Jacks fabric I purchased from <a href="https://elevatedfashionfabrics.com/">Elevated Fashion Fabrics</a>. Looks fun on LP and I'm pleased with the piecing as the jacks are a little overwhelming by itself!<br />

My cousin is expecting twins and I've been a busy sewist. I've made a few merino, merino/nylon, and cotton/lycra hats for the new little ones. The larger hat pattern is a <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/blog/diy-baby-hat">free one from Burdastyle</a> and the other is also <a href="https://www.coralandco.com/blog/2016/4/diy-baby-hat-sewing-pattern-and-tutorial-in-sizes-premie-12-months.html">free from Coral and co</a>.<br />

<br />
Hope the twins are cosy! I made something similar for the LP and found them very useful at the start. We have quite a few knit hats for LP at the moment so no need to make more for now but a sun hat is on the cards.<br />
<br />
Fabric:<br />
Merino and Merino/lycra: <a href="https://www.levanafabrics.co.nz/">Levana</a><br />
Cotton Lycra: Spotlight (patterned) and blue (stash from somewhere!)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My finished <a href="https://itch-to-stitch.com/product/belize-shorts-skort-digital-sewing-pattern-pdf/">Itch to Stitch Belize skort</a> in blue linen from <a href="https://fabricabrac.wordpress.com/">Fabric a brac</a> (<a href="https://clothingbydesiree.com/">Desiree</a> was the seller) and pockets lined in cotton lawn.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am so impressed I soldiered on and finally finished these! If you haven't read my epic journey to this point (save yourself!), it involved one skort muslin (4 sizes too large), one short muslin (2 sizes too large), one short muslin (sized correctly for me rather than from measurements but too large in the seat), and one finished shorts (hurray).</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jJgdjtzb2i8/Wn0fFYnV_5I/AAAAAAAAL_w/2YJlHn_5S6AQXOxSQw85riDG9BPBXhzMwCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B22-01-2018%252C%2B11%2B29%2B15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jJgdjtzb2i8/Wn0fFYnV_5I/AAAAAAAAL_w/2YJlHn_5S6AQXOxSQw85riDG9BPBXhzMwCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B22-01-2018%252C%2B11%2B29%2B15.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Of course, now that these are finished I'm not sure if they quite suit me. I've worn them once - out for a walk up a hill side on a very hot sunny day - and they were comfortable but in my head, they're really suited as cycle wear and I haven't been doing a lot of that. (except for renting an ebike with my brother over Christmas and going for a spin!)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TTXHfhKndhI/Wn0fFvL9uEI/AAAAAAAAL_0/R7mZx_bDkQcp_sobOYA3qnXFUkCO1jKNQCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B22-01-2018%252C%2B11%2B29%2B18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TTXHfhKndhI/Wn0fFvL9uEI/AAAAAAAAL_0/R7mZx_bDkQcp_sobOYA3qnXFUkCO1jKNQCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B22-01-2018%252C%2B11%2B29%2B18.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In terms of the pattern. The sizing really didn't work for me. I followed the measurements of my waist first (4 sizes up) then my hips (2 sizes more than my final version) and almost lost the will to finish these. Due to my flat seat, the actual pattern was far too baggy in the bum area. Of course, I expected this as its pretty standard for my ready to wear trousers and just needed to make a flat seat adjustment - ha! I said just! But I muddle through - see the epic short post for how I did the FSA. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If the New Zealand summer hadn't been so hot, I would have abandoned all hope. That said the drafting is lovely on these and I really like the mitred corners on the skirt front. It also made me work at a pattern and I've definitely learnt a new technique (the FSA in case you missed it!). In addition to doing the FSA on the shorts part, I did it on the skirt too - although much less of a need as the centre hangs down anyway.</div>

(I have another springfield cut out and ready to be sewn up too). Haha just noticed you can see LP's fingers in the picture above. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My sister in law is rather taken with Harry Potter and on the long nights in the early days with LP, I found quite a few impressive online fabric shops. <a href="http://snowyowlfabrics.com/?aff=3">Snowy Owl Fabrics*</a> have a number of different colourways in Harry Potter themed fabrics. I bought a baby and adult panel - the front of both tees, grey painted coordinating fabric - the tops of both tees, owl and text fabric - the sleeves, back and neck of the baby tee, and the castles fabric (text and outlines of Hogwarths underneath) - the back of the adult tee. I had to guess the size of the adult tee - I really hope it fits!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The baby panel was a little too small for the 18 month version of the tee so I had to add a little white to the sides.</div>

I've been very taken with the <a href="https://itch-to-stitch.com/product/belize-shorts-skort-digital-sewing-pattern-pdf/">Itch to Stitch Belize Skort</a>. I quite fancy the idea of a skirt with a pair of built in short. Possibly stemming from my days of cycling to school with my bottle green pinafore school uniform and trying to keep the cycle somewhat PG 13. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XH5-AqdgyLg/WmFT6_TdrvI/AAAAAAAAL2w/5AZqxKzpoSIinZY2E0ZZA78fKlidokR0wCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B49%2B49.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XH5-AqdgyLg/WmFT6_TdrvI/AAAAAAAAL2w/5AZqxKzpoSIinZY2E0ZZA78fKlidokR0wCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B49%2B49.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So version 1 was a muslin using wine fabric from stash (purchased way back in the early days of my sewing to upholester a couch but I moved first! Its not upholestry fabric). I made a rough version using my largest measurement (waist) which worked out as size 20. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e7kh5BMv9Ow/WmFT7MrMg7I/AAAAAAAAL24/j5W7CNFExgsOvy5rc5lfu_mdodChylg1wCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B49%2B59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e7kh5BMv9Ow/WmFT7MrMg7I/AAAAAAAAL24/j5W7CNFExgsOvy5rc5lfu_mdodChylg1wCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B49%2B59.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pattern is beautifully drafted and has some really lovely features - like the mitred corners on the inside of the skirt front.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tvBtyH6Mm_8/WmFT9EKzU_I/AAAAAAAAL28/k8YWWNDBEiEC7DgJf7AP-Am9JEqmLwCcQCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B50%2B15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tvBtyH6Mm_8/WmFT9EKzU_I/AAAAAAAAL28/k8YWWNDBEiEC7DgJf7AP-Am9JEqmLwCcQCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B50%2B15.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not very well mitred above ast was my test case and I couldn't really figure how all the pieces went together. But so impressed with the different pattern pieces and how neatly finished the garment is.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nBSYPwxgm1o/WmFT9Lc2w_I/AAAAAAAAL3A/pok6VExhe0EX2uX7B6GzrFw7iYnZqzTZACLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B50%2B24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nBSYPwxgm1o/WmFT9Lc2w_I/AAAAAAAAL3A/pok6VExhe0EX2uX7B6GzrFw7iYnZqzTZACLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B50%2B24.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Belize shorts part of the skort is only really visible at the sides where the skirt curves up. The back pattern piece is on a curve. And the front - as ably illustrated by my feline helper is two overlapping pieces.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bpV-c916vVs/WmFT7CGEZLI/AAAAAAAAL20/gneM_0wcR-oszWQ8gguFOEamMnRYaSo_QCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B49%2B36.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bpV-c916vVs/WmFT7CGEZLI/AAAAAAAAL20/gneM_0wcR-oszWQ8gguFOEamMnRYaSo_QCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B49%2B36.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Unfortunately, the test muslin was seriously too big. I went with my waist measurement and was really out of luck. So I decided to go with my hip measurement and throw caution to the wind and make a 'proper' version of just the shorts (fail quickly, right?). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zcnKKBEgDxs/WmFT9gPHaUI/AAAAAAAAL3E/fznqFXVu8Eca6LYBrIZvc19jQWaN6-YGwCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B50%2B58.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zcnKKBEgDxs/WmFT9gPHaUI/AAAAAAAAL3E/fznqFXVu8Eca6LYBrIZvc19jQWaN6-YGwCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B50%2B58.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So two sizes smaller and I used contrasting fabric I think I bought at a Wilson Trollope pop up shop.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BVF706mgJ1c/WmFT-0grYcI/AAAAAAAAL3I/EhUGpn0FbvMi8NxErl-HyQowMiEXKijiACLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B51%2B02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BVF706mgJ1c/WmFT-0grYcI/AAAAAAAAL3I/EhUGpn0FbvMi8NxErl-HyQowMiEXKijiACLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B51%2B02.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Its black with white check and alternatively white with black check for the contrast.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FpNTfB-wU2U/WmFT_bntJ9I/AAAAAAAAL3M/ZNEwDegCagcQmqtuuaJwWSKfOlNc37f3wCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B51%2B08.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FpNTfB-wU2U/WmFT_bntJ9I/AAAAAAAAL3M/ZNEwDegCagcQmqtuuaJwWSKfOlNc37f3wCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B51%2B08.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I lined the pockets with a double layer of silk from stash.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VihpPUhP5No/WmFT_acqVAI/AAAAAAAAL3Q/nf9ei3z9bEYbv8p4TgUyrmgj-UkL4e0qwCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B51%2B12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VihpPUhP5No/WmFT_acqVAI/AAAAAAAAL3Q/nf9ei3z9bEYbv8p4TgUyrmgj-UkL4e0qwCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B51%2B12.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The back has an enclosed elastic waistband. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iV-RzXJkBTM/WmFUAUNPGQI/AAAAAAAAL3U/sE5KmkPDsBk-5urALwEx5_q2dzuLxbkXQCLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B51%2B23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iV-RzXJkBTM/WmFUAUNPGQI/AAAAAAAAL3U/sE5KmkPDsBk-5urALwEx5_q2dzuLxbkXQCLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B06%2B51%2B23.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All in all a neat finish and a nice pair of shorts but too big. Dammit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SQhrFDhOsTY/WmFUA_qfgPI/AAAAAAAAL3c/Tma2vSoVvogNMMZiMJbp6mT-m2XfJ67PACLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B07%2B40%2B24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SQhrFDhOsTY/WmFUA_qfgPI/AAAAAAAAL3c/Tma2vSoVvogNMMZiMJbp6mT-m2XfJ67PACLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B07%2B40%2B24.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm stretching out the waistband here so its not quite this bad but they're in danger of not staying up and the legs feel quite baggy.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D-ZrpomoFvk/WmFUB0XTOTI/AAAAAAAAL3g/UGJio2GImJQELdvXn34tPWMwARk3Q5cIACLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B07%2B40%2B32.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D-ZrpomoFvk/WmFUB0XTOTI/AAAAAAAAL3g/UGJio2GImJQELdvXn34tPWMwARk3Q5cIACLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B23-12-2017%252C%2B07%2B40%2B32.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So on to version 3...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-unnoLZR4-bk/WmFTmP8qHgI/AAAAAAAAL2U/UrNEAoF6xbMWuAhM0qz2X6RiH4bwoIEvACLcBGAs/s1600/Photo%2B01-01-2018%252C%2B16%2B35%2B58.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-unnoLZR4-bk/WmFTmP8qHgI/AAAAAAAAL2U/UrNEAoF6xbMWuAhM0qz2X6RiH4bwoIEvACLcBGAs/s320/Photo%2B01-01-2018%252C%2B16%2B35%2B58.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I went down <i>another </i>two sizes. The fabric this time was the contrast to version 2. I think I prefer it mostly dark but these work too. I kept the dark for the waistband as well and think that works a bit better than just the contrasting pockets.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Not a bad fit at the waist but I have a rather flat seat (or more explicitly a non-existant bum) so did some hacking to make the seat a little less full after the shorts were sewn (I just sewed the back crotch a little more together) - there's quite a bit of extra bulk between the thighs but they're wearable (and I have too!).</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did a flat seat adjustment on this version. The really annoying thing about how to do this from tutorials online (and a craftsy class I purchased - Custom Fitting: Waist and Hips) was that the amounts that you needed to do the FSA for weren't custom. They all suggested a particular amount and then checking. I really wasn't feeling it after making three previous pairs of the same pattern and only getting one mostly usable one so far. Annoyingly, if I hadn't 'fixed' the white pair of shorts I would have able to measure the amount I needed to remove. Ah well, live and learn (or at least try to remember). The tutorials I used were: t<a href="http://kaythesewinglawyer.blogspot.co.nz/2014/07/that-flat-seat-thing.html">he sewing lawyer</a> and <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/7370831@N07/sets/72157600004811376/detail/">Ann Rowley</a> (she's the wonderful woman who won the first Great British Sewing Bee).</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I guestimated the amount and was thankfully rather on the money. It reduced the amount of fabric at the waist - I didn't bother about reducing the waistband as it wasn't a large amount.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Version 5 is finished - I finally made the skort. I've been sitting on blue linen from Fabric a brac (Desiree was the seller) for ages for this particular pattern so I'm glad its finally finished. Just need to photograph and blog!</div>

I made the simplest version up first and used encased elastic in the waistband. The fabric was from <a href="https://fabricabrac.wordpress.com/">Fabric a brac</a> and is a green french terry without a lot of stretch.</div>

The finished version was a little too plain for my liking so I added some applique by hand to the finished product. These were 6-9 months (I think but could have been 9-12 I just can't remember when I finished them) and quite tight on LP at the time (despite her being in the size range).</div>

Ok then round 3. I made these in stretch pinstriped denim from stash with cotton lycra for the waist band. The faux pockets are fun. But the space for nappies is lacking. I compared it with a pair of shorts that fit LP really well and the relationship between the back rise and the front is very different. I suspect the pattern would be better for non-nappy children! A bit disappointing given the number of makes I've made. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I couldn't help leading with this photograph. Its one of my favourite from last year. LP wrapped in a homemade crochet blanket (currently keeping her company in creche during the week) and one of my favourite tops also me made.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The purple and green blanket is LP's buggy and car blanket. Finished while I was in labour (I'm hard core, me! - a bit of a long winded affair so rather pleased I had time to finish this up before LP turned up. I was absolutely convinced she would be late so was rather slow on progress for a bit).</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also made a multi colour wool blanket using the hexagon pattern from my crochet book. I wanted to use up my stash as much as possible and most of this is leftovers from this <a href="http://crafty-mermaid.blogspot.co.nz/2016/02/blankets-big-and-small.html">large blanket project</a>.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since LP will need her own room soon (ish) I've been trying hard to deplete my crafting and sewing supplies. I used up wool from the <a href="https://www.thewoolcompany.co.nz/">Wool Company</a> from stash to finish this blanket before I gifted it to a friend. The hexagons are made with puff stitches and are wonderfully 3D.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had planned on using <a href="https://crafty-mermaid.blogspot.co.nz/2015/09/yet-another-blanket.html">this blanket</a> or LP's early days. I wasn't especially thinking about our own little person when I made it but I hadn't found the right recipient. <b>But!!!! </b>I washed it before LP's arrival and the white yarn fell apart pretty spectacularly. Rather pleased I hadn't gifted it to anyone else in the end! And from what I recall the white yarn was a different make/type to the circles and really just didn't wash well. The circles survived just fine.</div>
